General Information of Tumpak Sewu Waterfall
Tumpak Sewu Waterfall is located in between Malang and Lumajang region. The waterfall is in the foothill of Semeru Mountain, and in the clear days you can see the mountain in the background. Tumpak means waterfall and Sewu means thousand, so its called the thousand waterfall. It gets its name because of the many waterfall surrounding the cliff and makes it look like a thousand waterfall. Most of it are spring water and only one of it comes from the river. Therefore, the water is always clear, and only one might brownish during the rainy season.
Around the Tumpak Sewu, when you follow the canyon, you will meet several other waterfalls along the way. And in the end of the journey you will another waterfall named Goa Tetes Waterfall. Goa Tetes Waterfall is another beauty with its stalagtite contour made by its dripping water. There are also natural pond in the bottom, overlooking the waterfall where you can dip in its fresh spring water. To explore the whole area is an experience of a kind!
Best Time To Tumpak Sewu Waterfall
Tumpak Sewu Waterfall can be visited the whole year. The best time to visit is in the morning, because when you take picture under the waterfall, it won’t get blurry from the mist mixed with the sunray. If you are lucky, you will see rainbows perform in the waterfall. However, during rainy season of December-March with heavier rainfall, the waterfall might be closed due to flooding.
Tumpak Sewu Trekking
At first you will trek through cement road going downhill to get to the viewpoint. After the viewpoint, you will going downhill through wooden stair and dirt road. In one point, you will need to climb down a small waterfall with the help of a rope. Once you are down in the canyon, you might cross the river, pass the bridge and follow along the treck beside the river. Once you are reaching Goa Tetes Waterfall, its more challenging as you will hike up back the cliff through small waterfall and cement stair at last.
Temperature, Culinary and Toilet in Tumpak Sewu
The temperature is warm and the water is fresh. There are only basic culinary in the parking lot. You can bring your lunchbox or fill your tummy before and after the trekking. There is minimum toilet down in the waterfall, and more of it in the parking lot.
