MALANG CITY

Malang is the second largest city in East Java. It has a history dating back to the Singhasari. During the period of Dutch colonization, it was a popular destination for European residents due to its cool climate. People in East Java sometimes call it “Paris of East Java.”

The history of Malang Regency could be revealed through the Dinoyo inscription 760 AD as the primary official document to support the birth of Malang before a new inscription was discovered in 1986, which is so far not yet revealed. According to the inscription, it was concluded that the 8th century was the beginning of the existence of Malang Regency’s government due to the birth of King Gajayana’s ruling of his kingdom in Malang.

Malang together with its neighbouring city called Batu, has become the main destination for holiday in East Java. By plane: Malang only has 1 small airport named Abdul Rachman Saleh Airport. This airport only serves for some routes from Jakarta, Denpasar, Makassar, and a few other routes.
By train: Malang has one main station named Malang station. This station serves to other bigger cities like Surabaya, Yogyakarta, and a lot more.
By bus: Available from almost all cities and areas in Indonesia.
Easiest way to come to Malang if you are from abroad is by taking flight to Surabaya city, and then take ground transportation (private cars/ bus) from Surabaya. Malang and Surabaya is only 90 km apart.

Malang has some main objects for you to explore

Beaches: If you go southern, you will find a coastline facing the Hindia Ocean. Though many beaches are already famous for a long time, there are still new beaches keep being found and opened. Tiga Warna Beach and Banyu Anjlok beach are some of them, that still offer pristine beach with clear water.
Mountains: Malang is surrounded by mountains. From the highest one, Semeru mountain to the short one like Panderman Mountain. From the Malang city, you can view range of mountains on the horizon.
Themeparks: Many of world-class theme parks built in Batu city. Secret Zoo, Animal Museum, Jatim Park 1, and many options for any kind of interests. All managed very well with great architecture and well maintaned animals and technology.
Downtown Malang: Enjoy its culinary and local culture.

The relatively high rainfall in Malang is occurred in December until April. Meanwhile, in June, August and November rainfall is relatively low. The maximum wind speed occurred in May, September, and July. The average annual temperature is between 22 – 30°C. Malang is relatively cool compared to bigger city.

Malang has great local culinary. Famous ones are meatball, grilled meatball, noodles, Fruit Crackers, and many other. With its cool weather, you can find cozy cafe everywhere to spend your evening. One of the historical restaurant in Malang is the Toko Oen. Located in the downtown Malang, this restaurant is famous for its ice cream. But what makes it special is the historical building with pictures of Malang on the past in black and white. This restaurant was built on 1934 with Dutch architecture.
