BEST TIME TO VISIT BROMO
Bromo can be visited and open the whole year.
The best time to visit Bromo is between April to October which is the dry season. During this period, especially in its coldest month of June-August, its most likely free of fog, so we can enjoy the sunrise clearly.
In rainy season, we can still visit Bromo though. Eventhough it will be harder to see the sunrise, but most of the time we can still see the panoramic view of Bromo mountain. It will be greener in the savannah during the rainy season.
If you have flexible time, try to avoid weekend and peak season (August , December, & Eid Al Fitri), when its less crowded. Our guides will try to take you to less crowded spots everytime though.
Bear in mind that sunset is soon after around 05:30 pm and sunrise is correspondingly early at around 05:00 am. This means you need to get up by 03:00 am or so to get to the viewpoint in time for dawn. We will arrive when its still dark, but we need to secure a spot first before everyone else comes. Thats why we start as early as 3 am.
In rare occasion where the volcano gets active and unsafe, the crater will be closed for all visitor and we can only see from distance in the view points.
BROMO DESTINATIONS
Bromo area has 4 main destinations to visit. First is the sunrise viewpoints (Penanjakan, Bukit Kingkong, Bukit Berahu, Bukit Cinta, & Bukit Seruni), Bromo Crater , Whispering Sand , and Savannah. For sunrise viewpoint, we usually take our clients to Bukit Kingkong as they have great view and less crowded compared to Penanjakan. After enjoying the sunrise, we are going down through the sea of sand and make a stop in Lembah Widodaren for a photostop. Continue to Bromo crater where we’ll do an easy hike (roughly around 30 minutes) to the mouth of the crater. At times, the crater will let our its sulphur smoke that smells so bring your mask with you.
Most of our tour ends in Bromo crater. If you’d like to explore more, we can continue to Savannah with its green hills and Whispering Sand with a little charge.
When we continue to this 2 spot, there are chance for us to miss breakfast time in the hotel though.
All those destinations are within reach with the jeep. The only tracking you need to do is in the crater.
Private cars are not allowed to get in, because of the extreme road.
Toilet is only available in the sunrise point and a few in the crater so use it while its available
TEMPERATURE IN BROMO
Temperatures are refreshingly cool during the day but outright cold at night as temperatures can drop to zero in the dry season and are rarely much above 10°C in wet season. Daytime temperatures anywhere in the park never exceed 20°C with low teens being normal. So, you really want to bring your warm jacket here. Locals also rent jackets and hats, if you forgot yours.
Once the sun is up, it can get quite hot so put on thiner clothing under your jacket.
It can rain at any time and the mean average rainfall of 6.6m is best measured in meters, not mm! Most of that comes in the wet season though – November to March.
